Yes, there are a number of folks that are/have been using ECF for server-side (i.e. OSGi web servers/other types of servers)

There are a number of blog postings, but I'm not aware of full studies as yet. If I had the opportunity I would certainly do one myself, but I'm not able to do that currently. I'm engaged in just such an effort (to use ECF on OSGi server) myself.
